WHAT WAS THE INITIAL REASON FOR STARTING CRZN AND HOW HAS THE MISSION PROGRESSED?
I came up with the name CRZN (from “Corazón”) after brainstorming for a while. I wanted a name that combined having good intentions and the esscene of a Latinx family. Took the vowels out for aesthetic reasons plus it makes it look more like a party name, but recently it came to my attention that some people were reading it as “cruising” and I’m not mad at it because the party is queer as well as Latinx. We play really sexual music. I always talked about making a Queer Latinx party in Montreal with my friends, since I have experience with organizing events and djing, but it didin't really happen until the Pulse shooting happened, and that was the last push, I felt there was a reaction that needed to happen and there was no “Queer Latinx” party at the moment who could take on that role so I tried to rise to the occasion. We raised about $2k on CRZN’s first edition! Since we are mostly a fundraising party we don’t have a lot of funds to invest on bringing big DJ or artists names, but I’d like to try to save a part of the funds in the future to do that. I like that we are local, but I think that’d be the next step. There’s also a couple of more ideas I have in mind, but I need to optimize them before revealing them!
