DJ Rasines is a visual and sound artist from Burgos, Spain and a member of IKERSOINU, a research group which focuses on sound research and the development of conceptual tools for creation within artistic spaces. As a fine art student, Rasines was taught that, “an artist is recognized by their production and style.” Although not entirely in agreement with the statement, she strives to overcome this constraint. Her work is driven by her constant need to find new ideas.
WHAT GENRES/STYLES OF MUSIC ARE YOU INSPIRED BY THAT ALSO INFLUENCES YOUR SOUND?
I listen to all music genres but I have a weakness for punk music and its powerful messages and the stand it makes against all established values. These days I’m listening to trap, reggaeton, dembow… so as to understand these kinds of music from a different perspective. I’m interested in the gender and race issues implicit (or not) in these music genres. I am also a keen listener of more radical and daring music genres, as regards their sound, and of a whole new wave of Spanish artists, mainly those working in Bilbao, Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. I have created this mix for Bootleg Radio, “Fuego y Deseo” (Fire and Desire). I decided on a danceable session to cater for all sorts of listeners interested in music. A dj set can also be an act of responsibility, can’t it?, of warning the world and telling people what’s really happening.
